FROM A SAVED RECORDING TO TEXT

Voice memo to text in three steps

A simple workflow that gets out of your way.

01

Save and upload the memo

Export your recording as a standard M4A audio file, then choose it from Files or your computer. Only upload recordings you own or are authorized to process.

02

Confirm the estimated charge

We check the recording length before transcription. Sign in for your remaining one-time 60-second trial, or use prepaid minutes for a longer recording.

03

Review and export the words

Correct names and details in the result page. Copy the text, export TXT for notes, or choose SRT or VTT when you need timestamped subtitles.

From a saved voice memo to a useful document

Start with the actual audio file

On iPhone, open the recording in Voice Memos, use Share, then Save to Files. Apple’s standard export is M4A. Choose the saved audio file in the upload control above. A screenshot of a memo or an iCloud sharing link is not the audio file. This page does not connect to your Apple account or browse your recordings.

M4A does not need to become MP3 first

Upload a standard M4A recording directly; there is no need to rename its extension or convert it just for this page. MP3 and WAV recordings also work. If an export is a project or editable package rather than a supported audio file, export standard audio from the recording app first. Changing a filename does not change the underlying format.

Keep your spoken idea, including the rough edges

A transcript follows the speech rather than turning it into a polished summary or an action-item list. A reminder, draft paragraph or interview answer may include pauses and repeated phrases. Read the draft before using it, and correct important names, dates and numbers against the recording.

Use TXT for notes and documents

Choose TXT when you want to paste the words into a document, email draft or note. Search the transcript for a phrase and copy the part you need. Text corrections made in the result page are included when you export the edited draft. Keep a copy before the transcript’s 24-hour retention period ends.

Use SRT or VTT when timing matters

SRT and VTT preserve subtitle cue timing, which can help when you bring narration into a compatible editor or web player. The result page edits words, not the audio or timeline. If you trim the memo or add an introduction elsewhere, review and adjust subtitle sync in your editor.

Check the recording before uploading

Play the saved file once to make sure it contains the speech you expect. Quiet voices, wind, traffic and overlapping speakers can affect recognition. Both upload size and duration limits apply: a file must be at most 100 MB, and a paid recording at most 60 minutes. The free trial is a one-time cumulative 60 seconds after sign-in, not a daily allowance.

Apple’s guide to saving a Voice Memos recording to Files

Supported files: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, AAC. Uploaded files must be 100 MB or smaller and fit your duration allowance. Sign in for a one-time cumulative 60-second trial; paid recordings can be up to 60 minutes. Both upload size and duration limits apply. TXT, SRT and VTT exports include available timestamps. Original-language transcription, with automatic language detection. Accuracy varies by language and recording.

THE LITTLE THINGS, EXPLAINED

A few good questions.

Clear answers before you press transcribe.

Can I convert an M4A voice memo to text?+

Yes. Upload the standard M4A audio file, review the duration estimate and confirm transcription. You do not need to convert it to MP3 first.

How do I get a voice memo into the browser?+

Save or export the memo as an audio file on your device, then choose that file here. On iPhone, Voice Memos offers Share and Save to Files. This page does not import an Apple account or an iCloud sharing link.

What are the size and duration limits?+

Uploaded files must be 100 MB or smaller. Paid recordings must also be no longer than 60 minutes. Free processing uses only the remaining seconds of your one-time 60-second trial.

Can I edit the transcript and export subtitles?+

You can correct transcript text and export the edited draft as TXT, SRT or VTT. Subtitle files include timestamps. Adjust timing in a compatible editor if needed; this page does not offer timeline editing.

Does it summarize my memo or record my microphone?+

No. It transcribes speech from a file you upload. It does not record your microphone, automatically summarize the memo, or translate it.

Are you affiliated with Apple or Voice Memos?+

No. textfromlink is an independent service. Apple and Voice Memos names describe a source of compatible audio files, not an affiliation.

Do you keep or redistribute the original video?+

No. To transcribe a link or upload, we fetch the audio and process it temporarily. The media is queued for deletion when processing finishes; cleanup may take a few minutes, and we never offer it for download or redistribute it. You receive transcript text and subtitle files only.
